Philo Bradley established an iron foundry in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1853 called P. Bradley & Co. His son, Schuyler Bradley entered the foundry business with his father and was made president in 1918 of the renamed P. Bradley & Sons.
Under Schuyler Bradley's direction, the company became one of the leading foundries in the country and the Bradley Plow Point, one of the principal products manufactured by the firm, became known throughout the country.
