C. (Charles) W. Dove was a prominent Rockingham County resident and served as Road Commissioner for eight years, Sheriff for four years from 1924 to 1928, and on the Board of Supervisors for a period of eight years. He was married in 1894 to Sallie McMullen Dove and they had three children, John, Roy and Maxine. Maxine Dove was first married to James Leonard "Jack" Heath and their son was C. Robert "Bob" Heath, who is the father of the donor, Holly Heath Mullin. Maxine's second husband was John H. Green.

John H. Green's grandparents were P. J. Lamb and Katie Sullivan Lamb who were married in Harrisonburg in 1884. This collection includes their papers, and papers from one of their daughters, Irene Lamb. Another daughter, Mary Catherine Lamb, married Capt. John H. Green in Harrisonburg in 1916. Capt. Green was a conductor on the railway between Harrisonburg and Washington, DC. Their son, John H. Green, married Maxine Heath, mother of the donor Holly Heath Mullin, in 1945.

Katie Sullivan Lamb's brother was Edward W. Sullivan, proprietor of the Sullivan Cigar Factory in Harrisonburg, Virginia and this collection includes some of his papers.

This collection includes papers from the donor's family, which include items from her paternal great-grandparents, C. W. and Sallie McMullen Dove. Also included are items from the family of her grandmother's (Maxine Heath Green) second husband, John H. Green. John Green's grandparents were P. J. Lamb and Katie Sullivan Lamb. Other items from the collection are in 16.13.01.
