In the mid 1990's the Harrisonburg/Rockingham County connector road was proposed to help alleviate traffic congestion in and around Harrisonburg. This road has gone by many names such as the Loop Road, Bypass, Beltway, and Southeast Bypass. The construction of this connector road was very controversial as it ran through neighborhoods and farm land.
