Michael Baker was born about 1747 and he and his wife Elizabeth had twelve children. In addition to his large land holdings in the Brocks Gap area of Rockingham County, he owned a store at Brocks Gap, a house lot, a tan yard, a slaughter house and lot in Georgetown, Maryland, 400 acres in Greenbrier County, WV and 1,400 acres of land on the 'Western Waters". The Michael Baker store was located in Brocks Gap in the northwestern corner of Rockingham County.

This is a copy of the original account book that was used to complete the book Michael Baker Store Account Book, Brocks Gap, Rockingham County, Virginia, 1804 - 1825. This publication was transcribed by Dr. M. Ellsworth Kyger and typed and indexed by Patricia T. Ritchie for the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical Society in 1993.
